Rare geese working group has been established in Kazakhstan

Rare geese working group has been established in Kazakhstan during an online meeting discussing the project of the National Species Action Plan of the Red-breasted Goose and Lesser White-fronted Goose.

Main tasks of the working group include: coordinating efforts of organizations and individual specialists in research and conservation of rare geese species in Kazakhstan, and providing interchange of information and experience. Ten specialists from five regions of Kazakhstan have formed the group. The list will be replenished further. 

The online meeting included the following contents:

  • presentation of reports on main results of conservation activities of rare geese during 2013—2020 years;
  • discussion of the project of the National plan, particularly clarification and reconciliation of activities and deadlines, contents of planning seminars and meetings, schedule of activities for 2021—2023.

The meeting was organized by ACBK, with the support of the Forestry & Wildlife Committee of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Employees of the Committee, ACBK specialists, experts from the M.Kozybaev North Kazakhstan university, employees of the North Kazakhstan regional territory inspection, employees of Korgalzhyn and Naurzum State Nature Reserves and representatives of hunting users of Kostanay and North Kazakhstan region took part in the meeting. 

ACBK has been implementing projects on rare geese conservation since 2010. Monitoring research works during spring and autumn geese flight seasons are being conducted annually.
